見知らぬ人、店、職場で使う場合は「vous」が安全なデフォルトです。「on peut se tutoyer ?」（お互いに「tu」で呼び合いませんか？）と誘われた場合にのみ「tu」に切り替えてください。早すぎる「tu」の使用は、馴れ馴れしすぎると受け取られます。
助動詞が「être」の場合、過去分詞は主語と一致し（elle est partie）、助動詞が「avoir」で目的語が動詞の前に来る場合、過去分詞は直接目的語と一致します（les pommes que j'ai mangées）。
英語では「I drink water」と言いますが、フランス語では「je bois de l'eau」（私は水を飲みます）と言います。物質名詞にはほとんどの場合、「du」「de la」「de l'」が必要です。
